Air-Gapped Infrastructure Case Study

Vivere Luxury is a premium furniture retailer specializing in handcrafted, customizable furnishings from internationally recognized brands and artisan manufacturers.

With physical showrooms in California and Virginia alongside a growing e-commerce presence, Vivere combines luxury design with personalized customer experiences, offering made-to-order products across a wide range of materials, finishes, fabrics, and configurations.

To support its digital growth, Vivere required a modern e-commerce platform capable of showcasing highly configurable furniture products while maintaining the premium look and feel expected of a luxury brand. The solution needed to accommodate complex product customization, differentiated fulfillment models for standard and Open Box inventory, scalable content management, and an intuitive administration experience that would allow the internal team to independently manage products, content, and future catalog expansion.

Business Requirements and Challenges

DPL began by reviewing the client’s existing, separately branded Magento site and identifying the pages and features required for the new Vivere Luxury storefront. With the goal to keep Vivere a distinct brand with a completely different feel, the team set out to address the following requirements and challenges:

1. Building a Distinct New Brand from a Defined Feature List
DPL reviewed the client’s existing, separately branded Magento site and identified the pages and features required for Vivere, including the ability to upload 3D product models for effective product visualization. The team’s approach was to finalize the Kalles theme as the technical foundation first, then design Vivere’s new visual identity on top of it.

2. Expanding Custom Options Beyond Original Scope
The original scope called for basic custom options on select products. As development progressed, it became clear how extensive Vivere’s configurable furniture catalog actually was, with fabric, finish, hardware, and other selections combining into far more variations than a standard product listing. Shopify natively limits every product to three option types and 100 total variant combinations, which was not enough once the real scope of configuration became clear.

3. Enforcing Purchase Rules for a New Open Box Collection
Vivere wished to introduce an Open Box collection of previously opened, non-new inventory with its own delivery timelines, sold alongside standard new stock. Once approved, this required a business rule preventing customers from combining Open Box items with standard items in the same cart.

4. Shipping That Reflects Size, Weight, and Origin
Vivere’s furniture varies widely in size and weight, and fulfillment could originate from more than one location depending on whether an item was standard inventory or a locally available floor model suited to regional courier delivery. The client wanted shipping costs at checkout to reflect these differences accurately, without upgrading to the Advanced Shopify plan, the tier required to unlock third-party carrier-calculated shipping rates.

5. Client Enablement for Ongoing Content Management
Vivere’s team needed the ability to independently add and update product data and adjust page designs without ongoing developer involvement, requiring both an initial content build-out and clear internal training on the tools available in the theme.
